Every One Plays Baseball at the Annual Lincoln Home Game

<< Return to past events

Do you think someone who is 85 or 90 years cannot play baseball? They can when they join the Golden Oldies Red Sox baseball team at the Lincoln Home. Everyone plays ball. Wheel chairs, memory loss, walkers or canes do not stop the players from batting that ball and rounding those bases and having a grand time.

On May 31st the Golden Oldies Red Sox of the Lincoln Home met at the Nobleboro field under perfect skies to play baseball. Led by Merrill "Gonzales" Shea, Jim "Crawford" Goodsell, Jean "Ellsberry" Strong, Shirley "Ortiz" Dyer, Karen "Youk" Carr, Dan "Pesky" Thompson, Dean "Pedrois" Porter, Harold "JD" Peterson, Deb "Varitek" Allen and Frank "Beckett" Clifford, the Golden Oldies Red Sox pulled out a squeaker 71-0 win.

Of course hotdogs were grilled and lunch was served to all the hungry players after the game. When asked what was the best part of the day one of the players was heard to say, "holding that bat in my hand after all these years and all this laughing."
